An Introduction to Traditional Boat Building
This micro-credential introduces school leavers and youth in New Zealand to traditional wooden boatbuilding, providing learners the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills in the boatbuilding industry to go onto a full boatbuilding apprenticeship.
This course may also provide skills for those building or repairing their own boats and who want support to understand the practicalities of boat building.
An Introduction to Traditional Boat Building includes practical and theory in :
Timber classification, types cuts and storage of timbers used in boat building
Joining and laminating timber
Manufacturing and installing timber frames for boats
Fair installed framework
Fit timber to framework of a boat
Prepare materials for planking and sheathing a mould or boat
Sheathe with a fibre reinforced composite

Legal eligibility to study in NZ Residents and Citizens only. Minimum of 16 years of age. English language requirements.
